Common questions

How do I get started?

Create your household, then add an account for each thing you own or owe: current accounts, savings, ISAs, pensions, investments, property, credit cards, loans, car finance and mortgages. Each one needs a starting balance and the date it applies to. Your net worth appears as soon as the first account is in.

How does my family join?

Go to More → Household and tap Share invite link, then send it however you like. Whoever opens it can create an account, or sign in with one they already have, and they join your household. Everyone in a household sees all of its accounts, balances and transactions.

How do I keep it up to date?

Use Update balances from the Dashboard: it lists every account on one screen, so a month's updating takes a single pass. Anything you haven't updated for 60 days is flagged so it doesn't quietly go stale.

When do transactions change a balance?

A balance you enter is treated as the truth for that day, so transactions dated before it are assumed to be included in it already. A transaction added after you save a balance counts on top of it. On a credit card or loan, Spent adds to what you owe and Payment or refund takes it off.

Can I get my data out?

Yes. More → Backup & export gives you an Excel workbook, CSV files, or a full backup you can restore from later. In the app they open in the share sheet, so you can save them to Files, Drive or email.

Does Clanfolio connect to my bank?

No. You enter balances yourself, so nothing is read from your bank and Clanfolio can never move money. Accounts in other currencies are converted to your household's currency using rates you can see and override in More → Currency.

What does the assistant know?

Only your household's own figures, which is what it answers from. It can't invent a number, and it doesn't give financial advice.
